MANN=1999












Mann (Hindi: मन, Urdu: من) is a 1999 Indian movie directed by Indra Kumar. The film stars popular actors Aamir Khan and Manisha Koirala. Rani Mukerji also makes a special appearance in the movie.

SYNOPSIS

Karan Dev SiAamir Khan), a Casanova neck deep in debt, agrees to marry Anita (Deepti Bhatnagar) the daughter of Singhania (Dalip Tahil) a rich tycoon. Priya (Manisha Koirala) and Karan meet on a random cruise. Priya has just won a dancing competition and Karan has just finished some work for his to be father-in-law even though the first meetings aren't that good. He tries to make her fall for his charms but it does not work on Priya. So when it's time to say goodbye, they became friends.

But the thing is that before realizing it, they love each other. Raj (Anil Kapoor) is Priya's fiancé and she agrees to marry him because he had helped her when she was in need. When the time comes for the engagement of Karan he says no to everything and ends up on the street. Priya sees it all on tv because they had taped it live. The day Priya gets engaged, she writes Karan a letter telling him that their relationship is over. The letter fortunately lands in the hands of Raj and he agrees to let her go. While she is going to meet him she has an accident and has her legs amputated. Karan becomes quite disappointed. He further goes on to become a famous painter. One day he casually meets Priya but does not know that she is lame. She does not tell him about her disability as she does not want to burden his life. Finally, he has an exhibition and Priya purchases a painting of his which is of her speaking to his grandmother, whom Karan had introduced her to during the cruise. One day he come to give her a payal (piece of jewellery worn on the feet around the ankles) and sees the painting. He finally understands that she is the lame girl to whom the painting had been sold. At the end they both are married and they live happily ever after.

TRIVIA

Aishwarya Rai was offered the lead role of Priya. Interestingly, her movie Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam released at the same time and became an unexpected hit.

The movie borrows plot elements from the Hollywood classic An Affair to Remember.

One of the film's songs, Tinak Tin Tana, created controversy because the melody was taken from Malaysian singer Iwan's song Yang Sedang-Sedang Saja. Iwan sued Sanjeev-Darshan, the film's music director, for plagiarism and won the case.

The song "Nasha Hai Pyar Ka Nasha" has been plagiarised from Toto Cutugno's song "L'italiano".

The song "Kali Nagin" has been inspired from a rai song "Ya Rayah" by Rachid Taha (Original by Dahmane El Harrachi).

The song "chaha hai tujko" has been inspired from Telugu movie Raja "Edo oka ragam pilichindhi vela"

The song "Kehna Hai Tujhse" has been inspired from the song "Liquid" by Jars of Clay.

The song "Khushiyan aur gham" has been inspired from the song "Comevore (Italian)" by Eurotica
