RANG DE BASANTI effect is still on!

It indeed is fortuitous that on the one hand The Economic Times did a detailed feature on Aamir Khan from a business perspective and how he has changed the dynamics of movie making, collections of PEEPLI LIVE bearing ample testimony to it, on the other hand his cult film RANG DE BASANTI has spawned followers who are working in their own way to implement the message of RDB. RDB surely but slowly has given birth to crusaders who all over the country side without hogging the limelight are implementing the message of RDB.

It has happened for the first time in the Hindi film industry that a film even after four years after its release continues to inspire the practitioners to follow on the path that the film preached. Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra is also surprised by the development and his research assistant Ritu Jhingran is documenting this in the form of a documentary that would be tentatively released in the form of a movie named RUBARU that is slated to release in 2011.

When we say that cinema does not exist in the realm of reality, we need to do a reality check ourselves, as the kind of cinema during the last four-five years that has been made by the world of new breed of film makers has made the audience sit and take the learning out of it and implement it in their real lives.

In the context of the controversies that the Common Wealth Games is mired into, may be after the games are over, a RANG DE BASANTI type of audit needs to be undertaken and it indeed would be a fabulous documentary that could put those who were at the helm of affairs to some levels of discomfort.

Coincidentally, Aamir Khan has also been a part of another cult movie 3 IDIOTS that has established new paradigms of film making. Now that the DVDs of the film have also come out in the market, it indeed would be worthwhile to document whether a change has been brought about in the Indian education system in a small way. One is sure that changes would have been brought about; it is only that they need to be documented. The experiments post RDB and 3 IDIOTS underline the premise that documentation of such moments which have emerged as moments of disruption in the social milieu of the country need to be done on an urgent basis, as it is going to be the fulcrum of the research for generations to come.
