Aamir Khan Sahab : High hopes with Peepli Live

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will be hoping for third time lucky at next year's Oscars, after the latest movie he produced was chosen as India's entry for the Best Foreign Language Film category. " Peepli Live" -- a biting satire about the divide between rural and urban India and the problem of farmer suicides -- beat 26 other films to be submitted for the longlist, Film Federation of India secretary general Supran Sen said. Khan, who produced the film, welcomed the nomination and said it stood a "very good chance" of success. Two other films he has produced have previously been selected as India's official Oscar entry. "Lagaan" (Tax) -- a period drama about a group of Indian villagers who challenge their British colonial masters to a cricket match -- made the final five in 2002 but was beaten by the Bosnian film "No Man's Land". " Taare Zameen Par" (Stars On Earth), acclaimed for raising awareness about dyslexia, failed to be shortlisted in 2009. Khan also starred in " Rang de Basanti" (Colour Me Saffron), about a British documentary maker who wants to make a film about Indian freedom fighters, which was India's entry in 2007 but again did not make the cut. Only two other Indian films have been shortlisted for the Best Foreign Language Film category: director Mehboob Khan's classic "Mother India" in 1958 and US-based director Mira Nair"s "Salaam Bombay!" (Hello Bombay!) in 1989. Khan has made a name for himself as one of the Indian film industry's leading actor-producer-directors, combining offbeat subjects with high-quality production values and expert marketing. His previous two leading roles, " Ghajini" and " 3 Idiots" both beat box office records. India's official Oscar entry in 2009 -- a Marathi-language film about the father of Indian cinema, " Harischandrachi Factory" -- failed to make the shortlist.

Aamir Khan Sahab red light for Dhobi Ghat

The globetrotting, jet setting Ace Khan whose best known for his acting prowess has been donning the garb of ‘producer extraordinaire’ off late with impeccable flair.

Scheduled to return to Mumbai today morning, Aamir has been on a whirlwind tour with promotions for Peepli Live in the U.K and the world premiere of wife Kiran Rao’s directorial debut Dhobi Ghat in Toronto; both of which are home productions under the Aamir Khan Films banner.

While viewers in Toronto had the chance to catch the film at the premiere and various other screenings at the film festival, Aamir wanted the press to keep mum on the film and refrain from divulging nitty-gritty details as its theatrical release is still miles away.

In an effort to keep a closed lid on the project, the protective Khan handpicked the select media he interacted with and even chivalrously elected to let wife, Kiran bask in the festival spotlight as the film marks a first for her.

Like they say the good things in life are worth the wait, until then mum is the word!

Bollywood's got Saturday Night Fever

Hollywood star John Travolta was honoured at the GQ Men of the Year awards event along with Aamir Khan, Arjun Rampal and other stars. And he totally floored the B'wood biggies.

The 56-year-old actor, known for his hits 'Saturday Night Fever', 'Grease' and 'Pulp Fiction', was given the GQ Legend of the Year award late yesterday (September 26), a day after the star flew down to India in his private jet with his daughter Ella.

While Aamir was awarded the GQ Cinematic Icon of the Year, Arjun won the GQ Most Stylish Person trophy.

Aamir was so excited that John was attending the event that the actor made it a point to be there too.

"I am a big fan of John Travolta. I have seen a lot of his films. When I heard that he has come for this function, I made it a point to attend it. I'm also wearing a suit because of that," Aamir, who was dressed formally in a black suit and bow tie, said.

Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai (who won the Ultimate GQ Man and Excellence awards) met up with the star too. Abhishek posted on his Twitter page, "Just back from the GQ man of the year awards. Wonderful evening. Met 1 of my childhood favs John travolta. Very sweet and humble."

And Big B tweeted about it too, writing about the family's Hollywood interaction, "Abhishek and Aishwarya win GQ awards ..meet John Travolta ..found him humble and sweet .."

John, who is on a two-day visit to India, launched a new model of Breitling watches too. His wife Kelly Preston has not accompanied him as she is pregnant with their twins.

Meanwhile, the actor denied the news that he'd be performing with Akshay Kumar. He is likely to fly out of Mumbai today (September 27).
'Dhobi Ghat' release fixed

Aamir Khan Sahab has locked the release date of DHOBI GHAT. It's not Christmas this year. It's February next year. In fact, just last week, this writer had mentioned that Aamir has confirmed the month of release - February - and was likely to decide on the date shortly. It could be 18th or 25th. Well, the date is confirmed. It's 25th February.

As of now, the month of February also seems to be packed with biggies: DUM MAARO DUM on 4th, PATIALA HOUSE on 11th and DHOBI GHAT on 25th.
